What is a doula?

I'M GLAD YOU ASKED!

A doula is a  non-medical support person devoted to assisting women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum by providing information and education, physical assistance, and emotional support.

It's no question that the experience of childbirth has a powerful effect on women with the potential for permanent and long-term impact. Several studies have investigated the effects of the childbirth experience on women’s lives and one particular study involving 1,168 women found that even 5 years after the time of delivery, women could still accurately recall the details of their birthing experience.

Having a doula as a member of the birth team not only increases the likelihood of a positive birthing experience but it also decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%.

I firmly believe that whenever, wherever, or however you choose to birth your baby. you deserve to know your options. You deserve to make your decisions from a place of knowledge and confidence. You deserve to feel respected and heard throughout your pregnancy, labor, and birth.

Our initial meeting will help me tailor my packages to fit your specific needs, as every pregnancy is different. To schedule an initial consultation or to learn more about the packages I offer, please contact me.

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother? Never. A mother is something absolutely new.

Pricing + Packages

Every mother deserves kind and respectful support regardless of her situation. My goal is to make my packages affordable for all women and families. The cost of doula services ranges depending on a few key factors such as where you're located, the number of prenatal meetings we will have, among a few other variables. Each package includes the same birth, phone, and email support. Please keep in mind that booking doula services earlier in your pregnancy is more beneficial to everyone involved. The first few days, weeks, and months after baby is born can set the stage for the rest of parenthood. Many women feel that they must somehow continue to do everything they did before birth, all while caring for a newly born baby, and “getting their body back” as soon as possible. These societal expectations are unrealistic, leaving women feeling overwhelmed and like they are not fit for motherhood. This could not be further from the truth! This period after the baby is born is a time of adjustment (also known as the 4th trimester) and your only concern should be on recovering, building a bond with your baby, and adjusting to new parenthood. Allow me the privilege of helping you to have the best possible start!

This can include:

Everyday activities such as household organization, meal planning and preparation, errand running, and light housekeeping.

Newborn care such as safe sleep information, bottle + breastfeeding support, and helping you to process your newborn’s needs.

Emotional + physical needs such as comforting touch, a nonjudgmental sounding board, holding down the fort so you can shower/nap/self-care.

What I will do as your doula varies largely depending on your personal and familial needs. We will discuss what YOU need most and make a plan together!
